Psssst! Hey, you! I’ve heard a lot about your prowess on the seas. I am working on a top-secret project. Close your bill and let’s find somewhere private outside of this bar where we can talk.
I am Vincent Gaddis, a journalist informing the world of its paranormal side. I named the mysterious Bermuda Triangle, and now I shall investigate it! I will need a great captain by my side.
The Bermuda Triangle has a lot of unexplained disappearances and I want to report on it. We need to keep the mission secret so the government doesn’t get in our way. Bring only men that you can trust.
You do seem eager to embark on this adventure, but I must warn you. There is no telling what could await us in the Bermuda Triangle. I would advise you to armor your ship before the voyage.
I am sure you have a million questions in mind. Let us dine together tonight so I can further explain the details of my plan.
I want to sail through the Bermuda Triangle, record any oddities we experience and then publish a book. We will need scuba divers in the crew to see what is going on under the surface.
We can begin the preparations for the voyage. We should get as much lumber as we can so we have enough fuel to get us through the voyage. We cannot rely on chopping down palm trees in the Caribbean.
The ship seems ready, your crew has remained discreet, we are all set for our voyage. Before we leave, let’s get stronger lights for the ship. Nights in the Bermuda Triangle will be terrifying.
From Baltimore, it will be a long journey before we reach Florida, the Triangle’s westernmost tip. Let me tell you some mysterious stories from the Bermuda Triangle so you know what could await us.
Four tanker jets took off from Homestead AFB, south of Miami on a classified refueling mission over the Atlantic. Their crews totaled 11 men on this clear August day, but not one of them would return.
The four jets radioed their position within the Bermuda Triangle. The planes were new, in radio contact with each other, and were not flying close together. All of a sudden, the planes vanished.
Once contact was lost with the planes, hundreds of thousands of dollars were spent on a search mission. Search planes, as well as ships, crisscrossed the Triangle, finding only debris, no bodies.
It looks like we are approaching Florida. We best make a quick stop before entering the Bermuda Triangle, offload anything unnecessary. However, we must be careful so we do not get spotted.
We sailed past Miami, so we are now officially within the Bermuda Triangle. I immediately sense a change. We best turn on the ship lights so we can see our surroundings.
The ocean here seems so odd. I can’t describe it! Could you set out some fishing nets so I can see whether the fish are odd too? The smell of the air is unlike anything I have ever experienced before.
I cannot really tell if there is something wrong with the fish, but I would not try to eat them. I think we should use more fuel and get through the Triangle faster. I feel quite unsettled here.
I think it is time to send out the scuba divers, see if they find anything weird. Meanwhile, I can tell the rest of the crew a story. They seem a little on the edge since we entered the Triangle.
The USS Cyclops was the U.S. Navy’s biggest ship back in 1918. She was used for transport of manganese ore and coal, as well as refugees and troops during World War I.
The Cyclops set out from Brazil loaded up with brittle metal, stopped to resupply in Barbados, but would never reach its destination, Baltimore. The ship’s final message was “Fair Weather, All Well”.
This would be the end of the USS Cyclops. She vanished without sending out a stress signal. No debris was ever found, none of the 306 bodies were ever recovered, we will never know how or why it sunk.
It seems like my story didn’t help the sailors settle down. They seem even more scared and jittery than before. They are asking for extra money and threatening mutiny now that the night has fallen.
The divers are back and they look horrified. All of them are speechless. No one knows what they saw down there. I am getting scared of myself. Let’s get some food, that might help me feel better.
I hope you won’t mind if I tell you another story while we dine, this is the most recent one. The story of the Marine Sulphur Queen, an ironclad U.S. Navy ship that disappeared without a trace.
The Marine Sulphur Queen set out on its final voyage in February 1963, transporting molten sulphur from Texas to Virginia. However, the ship’s navigation must have been broken, as it went astray.
A signal placed the ship near Dry Tortugas, off its original course. The ship was never seen or heard from again. Bits of debris and life jackets were found, but none of the 39 crew members’ bodies.
What was that sound? Three of the sailors are fighting! Separate them! Quickly! One of them seems to have gone mad. He broke the ship lights and tried to turn the ship around.
The only explanation for this sudden madness is the Triangle. That sailor seemed completely normal before and all of a sudden he is trying to bite his friend’s face off? I do not feel good about this.
I have slept on it and I think we need to go back. I have got enough stories for my book as it is, we cannot keep risking everyone’s lives here. Let’s call the private port so they know we are coming.
I am glad we are finally out of the Bermuda Triangle. That was terrifying, it really messes with your mind. We should pay the port manager to keep our voyage secret. The government has eyes everywhere.
Let’s go for a last meal, captain! We may not have figured out the mystery of the Bermuda Triangle, but experiencing its magic has given me a new perspective. The book will be flying off the shelves!
Final Here is a little something for your trouble. Take care, captain. And try to avoid the Bermuda Triangle in the future. I wouldn't want you to disappear.
