Level Description
1 It’s a pleasure, captain. I am Chang Yung-fa, the head of the newly established Evergreen Marine. I am looking for business partners who will help me expand.
2 I am glad you are willing to invest in my shipping line. At the moment my fleet is somewhat limited, so I hoped to rent some of your ships too.
3 I founded Evergreen only a few years back, starting with my only vessel Central Trust. She is an old container ship, but with a few refits, she will serve for a few more years.
4 Last year I managed to expand into the Middle East. I need more ships to serve this new market. That’s why I approached you. I will need a few vessels and crew too.
5 In the beginning, I ran my ships empty just to convince my customers that my service is regular and reliable no matter the situation. Now I have enough cargo to transport all the time.
6 Before Evergreen, I founded a company with my friends. But making business with friends is not good. You have to keep those two separate or you will lose both. So I founded Evergreen.
7 The Middle East was long neglected by other shipping companies. Everyone was concentrating on North America. But I realized this is my chance to succeed.
8 There are some wealthy people in the Middle East. They want to invest in the newest technology and build modern cities. So Evergreen is here to deliver all they need.
9 By realizing this opportunity I was able to expand my fleet. But the demand for my shipping services is growing and I need to expand further. This requires another investment.
10 I am looking for more similar opportunities like the untapped Middle Eastern market. That could be Central America. I would like to use your ships and crew for the first voyages.
11 Shipping goods in containers is a fairly new idea but revolutionary. The containers make on-loading and off-loading easier and protect the cargo. We must acquire more container ships.
12 Make sure you have enough fuel for the voyage to Central America. The voyage will be long and I haven’t planned any stops on the way.
13 The cargo is already stored in the containers and ready to be loaded on your ships. It will be pretty heavy because you will be transporting construction materials.
14 The Central America business is going great. Tomorrow, I will be discussing the opening of a division in Tokyo. I want to invite the partners for some fine sushi afterward.
15 The deal has been made and Evergreen Marine Corporation will have a division in Tokyo. Now I think we are ready to expand into the coveted market of Northern America.
16 I have ordered several new vessels to be constructed in Japan. They will be shipping to the East Coast of the United States. However, with the new division opening, we are a bit out of money.
17 Our next few shipments will be of food cargo. We need to make sure the containers are in top conditions so the cargo stays fresh and unspoiled.
18 The new vessels are ready for their maiden voyage. I did not have time to hire the crew, but I trust you can help me with that. We should start shipping to the United States as soon as possible.
19 I have also ordered new shipping containers. They are freshly painted green with the Evergreen logo and ready to be loaded with cargo.
20 We will continue shipping food commodities to the East Coast too. Our new container ships will be ideal for this type of cargo.
21 I am opening another Evergreen division. This time in New York. The deal is already made, we just need to build the shipping terminal in the city.
22 The oil crisis has influenced our business too. The revenues are falling but I am not losing hope. We have a good standing in the American and Asian markets.
23 We must keep expanding and modernizing our fleet. My plan is to establish worldwide shipping routes. So we must enter the European market next.
24 We need a cheap way to transport across land too. So I am working on establishing our own trucking company as a part of the Evergreen Group. We will need to build a new logistic center.
25 I have made a deal to purchase several older trucks. We can start with that and then I can order some pricier new vehicles made exclusively for Evergreen Transport.
26 We need to keep upgrading our fleet so we can expand to Europe. Most of our vessels must be able to carry containers. Sell the old vessels and buy new container ships.
27 Northern Europe will be the toughest to infiltrate. The old shipping companies are occupying this market. But if we want to make worldwide trade routes, we need to enter this market too.
28 I have made a deal for the shipping of fish and seafood from Denmark. This is our chance to enter the market. I need someone reliable to oversee the transport.
29 Another deal was made for the shipping of cotton from East Asia to Europe. It seems we have established a fine standing on the European market too including a fresh division in Germany.
30 We have now divisions all over the world. But our headquarters is still in Taipei. I think it’s time we upgraded it to correspond to the size of our company.
31 Evergreen will start round the world service this year, one eastbound and one westbound. They should both take 80 days to complete. I need you to run the test voyage with some light cargo.
32 There is still space for us to move forward and expand our business. We have modernized our fleet and build new divisions all over the world. It’s time we invest in our employees.
33 I plan to have the best customer service and most skilled employees among the competition. That’s why I am interviewing all the employees hired in Taipei. You can send me some capable people.
34 All our sailors will be taking courses to improve their skills and rotate on the ships to gain more experience. Take some with you on the next round-the-world service shipping cereals.
35 We need to invest in some of the newest technology. I want to outfit all our ships with microchips and satellite tracking systems. This will give us the ability to find all our ships anywhere anytime.
36 Over the years I have been investing in various companies all over the world. I want to branch out a bit from the shipping industry. But this will always remain our main focus.
37 So actually I purchased a few Boeing jets. It’s time Evergreen took to the sky. I have also ordered a few new aircrafts to be constructed for us. This is a costly investment but I have it all thought out.
38 Also, I have purchased a few liquid gas tankers to expand our fleet. Will you take care of the first shipments? There are few reliable and experienced captains like you to take on this responsibility.
39 I am working on setting up Evergreen Airways. There is still a lot of work to be done before the first plane can take off. You take care of the shipping business for me.
40 The first Evergreen Airways plane has taken off. Maybe we should change the name, it seems a bit long to me. How about EVA Air? We can put that name on a large billboard.
