Level Description
Hello, captain or admiral. Sorry, I am still not sure about the ranks. I am the new clerk, Raye Montague. Are you here to put in a request for a new vessel?
I will type your request and then forward it to my boss. Just a moment. I will set up the machine. It’s a bit old and sometimes gets stuck. But the budget for new office supplies is spent.
Ok, I am ready. Tell me what kind of vessel you need. Please be as specific as you can. I need to know the ship’s purpose, construction materials, and what type of cargo it will transport.
That should be all the information I need. Oh, wait, one more thing. What is the number of crew members that will serve on the ship?
It might take a bit longer to complete the initial design for the ship. We are using a computer program to calculate the measures of the vessels. But all our engineers are sick at the moment.
I am taking computer classes, too, but I feel I am still not up to the task. But if you are in a hurry, I will see what I can do. Maybe I am just too nervous about breaking such an expensive machine.
I have good news! I managed to run the computer program to design the ship measurements. That means we can submit your request to the next department. It will still take a while.
Thanks to you I have proven my new computer skills. This should get me a step closer to the actual ship design. Being a typist is not my dream job.
I have dreamed of designing vessels since I first saw a real submarine as a kid. Later, my grandpa would take me fishing on his boat. I knew then that ships would be my future.
There are still just a few people who can operate the computers. Thanks to the course I took in the evenings, I can show my colleagues how to use those machines.
Yet my collegues get a promotion because they learn to work with a computer and not me. I am going to talk with my boss about this. But first, I need a glass of wine for courage.
My boss told me that the real reason I haven’t been promoted is that I don’t have a car and can’t take night shifts. Do you know about a cheap car for sale?
I have bought a car and volunteered for nightshifts for the next month. There is just one problem. I don’t know how to drive. I will find a bed and rest here a bit until the first-morning bus arrives.
Those night shifts are taking a toll on me. Yesterday I forgot to send the order for construction materials for the new Navy base. I hope it will be fine if I send it now.
My mum promised to teach me to drive when I visit her next week. Hopefully, I can get my driver's license and use the car I purchased. I am still paying off the loan I took for it.
Finally, I have my driver's license! When my boss found out I was going to night shifts without a car, he was impressed. He promoted me right away. I think I deserve a celebratory cake or two.
I can finally do what I always dreamed about, design ships for the Navy. The first order of the day is to redesign this old fishing vessel as a cargo ship for the Navy.
We can check on the progress of the vessel you requested. I know the workers who should be working on the vessel construction.
Your ship is already being built. If you want to speed up the process, you can help with the materials. The workers are using ferrocement to construct the hull of the ship.
The shipyard workers still need more materials for your ship. Don’t forget to deliver the iron. It gets used up fast as they need a lot for all the ships.
After my last promotion, I am a computer systems analyst at the Naval Ship Engineering Center. Finally, it’s a job that is challenging and enjoyable. And the pay isn’t bad either.
I can finally pay for a larger house for my parents. I have purchased a lot in the suburbs and the construction can begin soon. Do you have time to help us?
My boss gave me a commendation today. If I keep working on my skills, I could get the position of the department director. I will start taking additional computer courses again.
The house for my parents is almost complete. The workers will lay the flooring next week. I still haven’t decided on the wood. What do you think, oak or birch?
I think I am overworked. How about we take a weekend off and go on a short fishing trip? We could sail around the Navy harbor. I just want to take a few notes on the new ships.
I have been promoted to the program director for the Naval Sea Systems Command. We are developing a new class of vessels and will need tons of materials for it.
I have a meeting with the Navy sailors tomorrow. I want to hear from them firsthand what they need when serving on our ships. It will help me improve our design.
Our scientists are testing some new materials in the lab. Can you deliver them? We must wait for the test result before running our program.
I have been asked to design a ship solely by a computer program in one month. Until now, computers have just aided us with the calculations. Boss promised my team a nice bonus if we made it.
Easy. I designed a completely new vessel just by modifying our existing computer programs in nineteen hours. It was so much fun I completely forgot to sleep or eat.
The ship I designed, a frigate named Oliver Hazard Perry, will be the model for the new class of Navy vessels. I have submited the design to the shipyard for construction.
I want to oversee the construction of the frigate. It feels like my first true ship-baby. It’s weird, I know. But I want to be there when she takes shape.
We are having a banquet celebrating the first computer-modeled ship. Can you take care of the catering? Something simple like sandwiches will do. The budget for parties is not big.
I have received an order to design my first submarine. This reminds me of that submarine I saw with my grandpa when I was seven years old. That one moment led me here, to this.
I was invited to participate in the first voyage of Oliver Hazard Perry, the frigate I designed. I am meeting the crew later today.
It was a pleasure to see a vessel I designed on the water. I envy the sailors who can serve on her. Unfortunately, I am not fit for a sailor’s life. I always get seasick on a ship.
We received a sizable amount of money for the next project. We will be designing an aircraft carrier. I will have to do some research before that. I have never designed such a large vessel.
I have entered all the input data into the computer. Now we need to wait until the calculations are complete. But you can start shipping the materials already.
Nimitz will be a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier that will serve as the flagship for the new class of vessels. This is not my first nuclear-powered ship, but it is still a challenge.
The design for Nimitz is complete and I am taking a vacation. I love my job, but I have been working nonstop for months. Can you make sure the construction workers have all the materials?
Final I might take a longer vacation. So here, take your well-deserved reward.
