Level Description
1 Hello, there! You have been sent by the company to help me build the motor? I was promised an assistant. Have you already started amassing the materials for our little project?
2 I have arrived in Augsburg only today. The journey from Berlin was long and I am famished. Before we get to work, let’s get something tasty to eat. I didn’t even eat breakfast.
3 Alas, I have forgotten some essential items at home. Without them, our project might fail. Do you know someone headed for Berlin? I will tell them what I need to be delivered.
4 Your men did a good job. Now I have everything I need to start the work. I would give them some gold as a reward for being so swift. Unfortunately, I have my pockets empty.
5 Currently, the rational heat motor is just a theory on paper. Thanks to the Maschinenfabrik company, I can finally build it. They promised me a separate workshop for the construction.
6 The warehouse is a bit further away from the remaining buildings. In case of a failure, the engine could explode, so we should put some warning signs outside.
7 I have realized that my original design is not going to work. While on the train, I made a few modifications to the heat motor. One of them is the fuel for which we will use oil.
8 We are ready to construct the first model of the motor. Where did you put the materials you brought earlier? Never mind, just get some more. We will surely use them all.
9 How about you go for some food? Bring as much as you can carry so we don’t have to leave later. We can store it in another one of my inventions, the refrigerating box.
10 While you were gone, there was an accident. The engine exploded while I was working on it. Can you call the ambulance?
11 I have a concussion, but it’s not serious. We can keep working. The modified design was not good, obviously. I will have to make some additional changes to the motor.
12 Our workshop is in ruins. We will need a new place where we can construct the motor. Do you know about a place we could use?
13 This laboratory looks ideal for our purpose. Did you build it on such short notice? We can furnish it and bring the equipment that remains undamaged from the old workshop.
14 The engine will work with all kinds of oils. But it might be more efficient with processed oil. How about we try it out in the next model?
15 The first working model of my rational heat motor is complete. I am sad to say it’s not good. But at least it didn’t explode into my face. We will need some more help to complete this project.
16 New technology is not cheap. I had to invest some of my own money to construct the parts. But I am sure if we go to the chief of Maschinenfabrik, he will increase the funding.
17 I completely reworked my original design of the engine. We are ready to construct the next model. However, we should eat something before getting to the serious stuff.
18 I had to scratch my original design completely. But thanks to the original, we can now develop this new model. We are using grey cast iron to build the body of the motor.
19 We are still missing a few components to complete the engine. Let’s go to the Hardware store. I will tell you what we need.
20 I forgot my money at the lab. Can you pay the clerk at the Hardware Store for me? We can't have our project delayed by an arrest for theft.
21 The motor is still a work in progress. But once we are done, I am sure it will be perfect propulsion for ground and water vehicles both. Let’s have a look at your ships.
22 We could make a version of the motor designed for ships. But first, let’s test our prototype. I have learned from my mistakes, we will test it in an empty building far from everyone.
23 It works! I will have to run additional tests, but we are finally on the right track. I still have to work on the cooling. The machine is so hot you could grill fish on it.
24 With the water cooling installed, the motor is running like a clock. I will apply for a patent on this newest invention before someone makes it first. You can open a bottle of wine.
25 As I said, we are going to work on improving the motor. I selected a few young engineers who will help us upgrade the design.
26 We are improving my lab too. New equipment should arrive later today. With all these modern machines our work will progress significantly.
27 Here are the plans for my earlier invention, the refrigerating machine. It could be a useful thing in our lab too. We will need some metal to build it.
28 We are making a new cylinder for the engine. We will pressure-test it in water, so we will need a large water tank.
29 We need to cast a new cylinder. This one didn’t hold under pressure. Who knows how many cylinders will have to be made. It’s not a cheap thing. Thankfully investors are doing their part.
30 The whole idea behind this new motor is the improvement of fuel efficiency. A classic steam engine uses only about 10% of the energy available in the fuel. But the more energy we gain, the higher the pressure.
31 We need to construct all the engine parts, especially the cylinder, so sturdy that they hold under pressure. It is no easy task. But if we manage it, we can improve the fuel efficiency to 75%.
32 I am sorry if I have been too technical for you. Sometimes I forget myself. Let’s go out and eat something. We might have more luck with the cylinders after lunch.
33 This cylinder will be the right one, I just know it. Bring me more iron and we can get back to work. We wasted enough time already. The next break is after we get the motor working.
34 The fifth time is the charm! This cylinder can hold under the pressure that our engine will produce. With this the Diesel Motor is complete.
35 Now that we have completed the motor, I can accept that invitation to the United States. I was asked to give a lecture at Harvard University. Do you have a ship headed across the Atlantic?
36 I am going to apply for a patent in the United States too. Several engineers have tried to build the engine already. None were as successful as us, but someone will figure it out eventually.
37 I have submitted the patent application. Now we are just waiting for the reply. Let’s buy souvenirs for my wife and our colleagues in Germany. Do you think they would like some candies?
38 I have good news. We have obtained the patent for the engine and that means we can return home. I can’t wait to get back to work. There is still so much we could improve.
39 I could hardly get settled and already I must leave again. The British Royal Navy would like to use my engine in their submarines. They invited me to London.
