Level Description
1 Hello there. I have seen you around a few times. I am setting up a new Marine Laboratory here in Cape Haze. I am looking for coworkers. Are you interested?
2 I understand you are not available full-time. But I am sure we can help each other out from time to time. How about a flexible arrangement? All help is appreciated.
3 The laboratory is financed by the Vanderbilts. Maybe you know them, they own a bunch of railroads and a shipping fleet. But we can always use more money.
4 Right now, it’s just me and my assistant Beryl Chadwick at the laboratory. The laboratory is still not fully equipped and we need new furniture too before we hire more people.
5 We are making some of our equipment ourselves. It’s cheaper and we can make the device just like we need. But special materials are necessary for that. Maybe you can help us obtain them.
6 Right now we are concentrating on observing sharks. Beryl is a specialist at that. It’s dangerous work. We need to be enclosed in strong metal cages when we observe the sharks.
7 We need to find customers who will order research done by us. That is the business plan for our laboratory. Maybe you can help us out and speak to some people you know.
8 We have received our first research request. We are going to study sharks for the New England Institute for Medical Research. Sharks are our specialty so it’s the best way to start.
9 The word about our perfect research of sharks has spread and new requests are piling up. We will need to buy new equipment to carry out some of the more specialized studies.
10 We have also received several requests from students to come study with us. This is a great opportunity how to get more working power without raising the costs. We will offer them free food instead.
11 We will need a larger building for the laboratory soon. I was thinking of moving to one of the Florida Keys. If we find a good place, we can build the perfect laboratory from scratch.
12 There is this wonderful land for sale on Siesta Key Island. I have already made arrangements to obtain it. We can start planning the new laboratory including a pier for boats.
13 The new lab was built so fast thanks to your help. Now we just need some large metal tanks for the sharks we will study here. They must be big enough so the sharks can swim around.
14 We are ready to move the lab to the new building on Siesta Key. We will transport all the lab equipment on your ships. I have already packed most things so your sailors can load them on board.
15 I have purchased a small boat for cheap. It’s old and needs some fixing, but it should be sufficient for our diving trips into the bay. You know how to fix a boat, right?
16 We have hired a few interns who will help us with research on smaller fish. I don’t want them to get bitten by a shark. Maybe after they gain some experience we will let them study sharks too.
17 We need to buy new diving equipment. The suits we used are a bit dated and when we go deep into the sea, I don’t feel so safe anymore. Unfortunately, we are out of money right now.
18 I have been using glass jars to catch the smaller sea creatures. It’s the perfect device to catch and transport them. I have ordered more custom-made glass jars made just for us.
19 We have rescued a wounded shark. It was probably hurt by a ship. We will need to transport him into our lab and treat him there. It needs to be in a cage so it won’t attack us.
20 I think we will need an outside pool for the shark. Our indoor water tanks are not ideal to care for a wounded shark. Can you help us build a pool on such short notice?
21 We are no marine veterinarians so we need to call for a specialist. Do you know someone who can help us? Or maybe your men could ask around.
22 The shark is recovering and we can concentrate on our new research project. This time we will need to venture further out into the open sea to look for a rare species. Let’s get fuel for our boat.
23 I have been invited to take part in the Israel Red Sea Expedition. I would love to go but I still have some unfinished business here. Help me out a bit and I might be done in time for the expedition.
24 Beryl will take over for me here at the laboratory. So I can go on the Red Sea Expedition. There is still a place for an experienced sailor if you are interested.
25 It’s my first time in Israel but we won’t be staying for long. We are setting out for the Dahlak Archipelago in the Red Sea. We will set up a base camp on one of the islands.
26 I am here as an expert on sharks. But I will be studying other local species as well. I am counting on you to help me catch some of them.
27 I have managed to observe a pair of whale sharks today. Truly magnificent creatures. I completely forgot I was supposed to take care of the food for tomorrow. Do you think the market is still open?
28 The expedition was a success. We collected a lot of new data on the local species. I will be returning to Florida shortly. Can you call your men to help us transport the equipment back to Israel?
29 It’s good to be back in the lab. But now I can see we could use a brick boathouse. There must have been a hurricane while we were gone because our boat is in shambles.
30 I think we are ready to invest in a new boat. This time I won’t go for a second-hand vessel. Let’s find a modern boat fully equipped for our research.
31 This boat will do. Let’s take her out to the sea. We are going to collect some driftwood. There is a species of sea snails that like to live on the wood. I hope we will manage to catch a few samples.
32 The hurricane that destroyed our previous boat has wrought damage in the nearby village too. Thankfully, our lab is mostly intact so we should be able to provide some help to the locals.
33 We are making another shark observation tomorrow. This time we will be concentrating on the white sharks so sturdy cages will be necessary.
34 I have been invited to make a lecture about our research at the New York University. I am happy to share my findings with the younger generation. Do you have a ship and crew that can take me there?
35 The lecture was a blast. I even got an offer from the University for a permanent position. It might be a nice change of pace. But for now, let’s get back into the water and catch some fish.
36 We hired a lot of new scientists at the laboratory. With all the research requests, the new staff was needed. I hope we have some money left for new equipment too.
37 My new intern is writing a paper focused on the small species living in the sea clay at the bottom of the ocean. Can you help him collect some of the clay? He is not an experienced diver yet.
38 I have helped built a wonderful research institution here. There are so many new people working here. We might need to expand the building so that everyone has a place to do their research in peace.
39 I think I am ready to move on. I am taking up that offer to teach at the New York University. Teaching might be just what I need right now. Help me pack my things.
40 I won’t be needing your help anymore. A teacher’s job is not as material-demanding. But who knows, maybe I will go back into the field once again. After all, I like swimming with sharks.
